President Donald Trump recommends an additional $4.5 million be added to the FDA budget to address the quality of compounding pharmacies nationwide, According to a recent article on Outsourcing-Pharma.com. Congress still must vote to approve the proposal.
Since a meningitis outbreak originating at New England Compounding Center eight years ago killed over 64 people, the FDA has worked to raise compounding standards.
The article also says, “Last year, the FDA issued around 100 Form 483s and more than 10 warning letters to compounding pharmacies,” revealing sustained noncompliance in the industry.
